As a Mayfly

April Yuan and Netta Rabinovitch | P8 Gallery in Tel Aviv. The exhibition was supported by the China Cultural Center.

The exhibition "As a Mayfly" brings together traditional Chinese art forms and contemporary global issues, reinterpreting calligraphy, poetry, and drawing through a modern lens. The works of Israeli artist Netta Rabinovitch and Chinese calligrapher April Yuan highlight the destruction of nature by human actions, such as animal extinction, deforestation, plastic pollution, and oil spills. The traditional "three perfections" of calligraphy, poetry, and painting are blended together to raise awareness of these issues and promote an aesthetic appreciation of nature. The poems serve as commentary on the visual scenes of environmental disasters, reminding viewers of the possibility of balance between humanity and nature. The exhibition also includes two enlarged depictions of red seal carvings by Yuan, which represent the interrelation of complementary forces and the duality of human existence in the universe.
